Description
Sound of Poetry is a heartfelt musical tribute to the late Sir John Betjeman, curated and produced by broadcaster and musician Mike Read. Inspired by melodies that emerged while reading Betjeman’s verse, Read composed music to accompany the poems, enlisting a remarkable lineup of artists to interpret them. The project received early support from Lady Betjeman and legendary producer Sir George Martin, with contributions from Rod Edwards and Jon Sweet across the two discs.
This 30-track set blends nostalgia, wit, and lyrical beauty, featuring performances by Cliff Richard, Marc Almond, Don McLean, Paul Young, Colin Blunstone, Gene Pitney, Steve Harley, and many more. It’s a collector’s gem for fans of British poetry, classic pop, and evocative storytelling.
