Marching Song / When Young is a 3‑CD archival box set bringing together Mike Westbrook’s groundbreaking late‑1960s work for Deram, including both volumes of Marching Song (1969) and a third disc of rare and previously unreleased recordings spanning 1966–1970.
The set documents Westbrook’s ambitious anti‑war jazz suite, performed by the Mike Westbrook Concert Band, blending avant‑garde big‑band writing, free improvisation, and emotional thematic development. The third disc, When Young, adds early sextet and quartet recordings plus rare single sides with Norma Winstone.
This edition was released in 2017 by Turtle Records / RPM / Cherry Red, remastered from the original tapes and packaged with period artwork and full licensing from Universal Music Group and Mike Westbrook.
